Venus

By Dorothy Marie Koveal

Smooth dark velvet blanket,
envelop me in your heavenly beauty,
and stream my eyes with distant tinsel
that dives from your hand to be
swallowed by rough gloomy seas.

Clear liberating tears that fall from
your delicate grey eyes
only to graze my skin and,
when you rest your thousand eyes,
steal my pain and return to your face.

Let these thousand eyes witness
the one green iris of envy,
burning bright in its own identity,
whose gracefully floating poison
surge at once and smother my soul.

Smooth dark velvet blanket,
let your rain wash this air away,
and your lightening strike me to live.
