The Chamber

By Chie Theresa Fujioka

by Chie Theresa Fujioka

Down quiet halls of murky stillness
silently echoes the ancient thunder
richly embroidered silks rustle
with the fluid motion of muffled priests
chambers of elaborate ivory, teak,
dark mahogany conceal
the beast glowing in the dim light
scales in colorful hues of deep greens, reds, blue
rimmed in shimmering gold and silver tones
hidden music of vision
the sculpted mask watches closely
powerful jaws hint inanimate movement
claws, still, yet crushing, pounding
a timid reach beyond boundaries
steely to the touch
but reflecting the warmth of the hand
the mind's freedom in oppressed isolation
