Kids Found Lost

By Dawn Good

Everywhere I look I see others just like me,

Kids in brand names and fads,

So that they can be,

Just like him, her, we.

We wander around trying to find ourselves,

But instead just getting lost,

Into oblivion we delve,

Lost on our minds' shelves.

I look around at the others swimming,

Half drowning and half breathing,

Afraid to swim and lives dimming,

Our minds so full of fear we're brimming.

We're all so afraid to walk alone,

We fear being seen,

Our true selves possibly shown,

So we sink into others and spiral down.

True some of us find ourselves and swim to shore,

But that is only so few,

There could be so many more,

Too many of us instead ask, "What for?".
