Invocation

By Matthew Patterson

I call the power of the sky,
The energy of sun on high,
The vengeful force of lightning ray,
The lashing of rain's frigid spray,
The crashing of the thunder fierce,
The storm of hail to crush and pierce --
Thus bind unto myself do I
The mighty power of the sky.

I call upon the Earth for aid, The fortitude of mountain staid, The firmness of a stone at hand, The perfect roundness of the land, The force that moves a galaxy, The solid base beneath the sea -- That I may stand firm, never swayed, I humbly ask the Earth for aid.

I call the stars down by my side, The stag'ringness of light's long ride, The awesome feat of stellar birth, The thought of many another Earth, The black hole's mastery of time, The quantum mystery sublime -- From cosmic thought no foe can hide; I beg the stars, stand by my side.
