I'm all that breathes
The sound implied
My relatives of gloried old are gone
And why can't I go on
It's been denied
My being seethes
I walk alone
No mate have I
A savvy sole survivor of the brush
The night, a quiet hush
No lullaby
A bed of stone
My breath aflame
I stab the night
My sword, an ancient truth from times antique
And yet, I cannot speak
My silent right
Ask not my name
To hold a torch
That isn't real
A beacon for such monumental loss
Surrendered with a toss
Can you conceal
The place you scorch?
I'm not afraid
The past is here
The winds of lust and peace may coincide
Unfettered, still I'm tied
So insincere
This role I've played
Becalmed by choice
This sea of land
Horizons filled with trees who pray to none
From here was this begun
Come, take my hand
Come hear my voice
"'twas long ago"
The story starts
The men of King Gregando rode with haste
Their women, pure and chaste
A boy departs
With mannish glow
So tall he rode
His eyes alert
He dwarved by the raw glory of his sword
The siege he galloped toward
Air filled with dirt
Drink in this ode
What sordid bliss
The seeds of youth
Now squandered on adventures of the faith
His glory, now a wraith
Diminished truth
Your eye may miss
Heart set against
The wind that bites
Oh! That such perseverance of the will
Beseeching "please be still"
Can set to rights
Fools so incensed
The one empire
Of heathen boon
Now fallen from the wrath of Christian sword
May they now praise the Lord
Could one impugn
So bright a fire?
So wry a smile
Such piety
The realms of trust in God or men run deep
How light these Cardinals sleep
Contingency
Forced all the while
Into the wood
The fortress keep
A warrior alone so blithely stole
Beliefs now in control
The wilds weep
In brotherhood
