Ashes
On Good Friday I burnt the prunings. Lilac buds all green and ripe that will never flower now.
Piles of them.
I reduced them to ash and the boy raked the ash over the garden.
I look out my window today watching the pouring rain blend the ashes into the earth.
Nutrients for some future growth.
But the lilac bushes are bare and in shock. With not a bud to be seen.
