Affairs of the Heart

By Owen Rodgers

What did you do to me? You woke me from my comfort, and made me feel alive. You made me feel sexy, interesting, and young. I became dissatisfied with myself, And sought to become something more.

You gave me thrills and excitement, and love. You made me long for more than I had. I wondered at what I might be missing before, then you gave me words to say it – And love belonged to me.

Then you left me with my newly opened heart, returning home for the sake of right. I’m not sexy, interesting, or young anymore. Now I’m only dissatisfied with myself. And not worthy of anything more.

You took the thrills, excitement, and love, with you, but I still long for more than I have. You were what I missed before, and now again. Forever empty at the loss of you - And love’s no longer mine.
