No nits for you, bub. By: Mark Morgan on 9/20/2000; 9:56 PM Several of the regular readers of this site, and certainly a majority of its first members, came along with me from Nitpicker Central Bulletin Brash Reflections. It's probably useless to click that link, becuase Nitcentral has been offline since at least 5AM Pacific today, maybe longer. Ugh! And yesterday, one particular part of the Nitcentral discussion board (Religious Musings) was a hotbed of Internal Server Errors whenever one would try to post. It was ugly. Most of the time the post would go through anyways, but sometimes it wouldn't. Some of the other board functions weren't doing too well, either. The board runs on Discus, about which I know little except that it's based on cgi like most everything else. (Unreason isn't.) I speculate, completely bluesky, that the sheer number of messages stored on the board might have been it and the rest of the site's undoing. But I don't know. What I have done is e-mail Chief Nitpicker Phil Farrand about the outage, and when I know more, you'll know more. I hope this isn't as bad as it looks. Really. One of the reasons I established Unreason was because I started posting long rants to Nitcentral, rants that really belong on a web page, not on a discussion board! Of course, now I use a discussion board as the heart of my website, but I digress. My point is that the time I spend ranting on Nitcentral colors all my writing here. I would understand things less without having spent time there, and I hope everything is okay. I even run one thread there, nits and comments about the television show Angel. I'd hate to see all that disappear. Again, from my ears to yours.
RE: No nits for you, bub. By: Mark Morgan on 9/21/2000; 4:05 PM Addendum to the previous: suddenly to my horror, it occurs to me that if the web site for Nitpicker Central is down, maybe so is the Chief's e-mail. Ugh! So it might be a while before I hear from him, after all.

For those of you who don't frequent Nitpicker Central, someone named "Peter" has become the center of controversy because of his arguments and, quite honestly, because of the way he chooses to state those arguments (recent example: "most normal Americans agree with my views", causing a furor over the choice of the word "normal"). I have invited him to visit here and state his opinion, but no dice. I did warn him that there are some very informed people who read this site, and to expect to swim with the sharks. We'll see.
