Shong
By: Stephanie on 5/20/2003; 9:40 PM

New words can be fun and useful. Just resently, in the past year, I have been using the word “shong”. This word just popped out of nowhere and I just decided to use it. It is pronounced like the word “song” but instead of the s- sound it is the sh- sound. “Shong” can be used as a concise way to express extreme emotion. This word defined means “wow!” or “I can’t believe it!”

“Shong” can be used in a situation of disbelief and amazement. For example I was watching television one night and I saw a man fall out of a 747 airplane. Instead of saying “Oh no! Is he okay? Why did that happen? Wow! I can’t believe what I just saw!” I said, “Shong!” because I was watching in disbelief and amazement.

“Shong” can also be used in a situation when one is speechless. For example when I saw the New Zealand landscape in the New Line Cinema movie “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” for the first time, I said, “Shong!” I was speechless at how stunning the scenery was. Another example is when my sister showed me a two-carat diamond up against her hand. Her hand is so small that a large diamond up against her hand is huge. I was astonished so I said, “Shong!” My sister just laughed at my new word.

I use “shong” because it is a funny word and when I use that word I giggle and have raised spirits if I am feeling down. I also use this word because I can get my point across. This word has become part of my regular vocabulary. While getting a point across because of the pronunciation and context used with the word, it can be fun for one to use the word “shong”.

Well words are peculiar. Like "Salmon"...didn't know it was supposed to be pronounced as "samon" anyway words are mysteries either alone or in bunches.

I invented the word "joygasm", its when one experiences extreme occasions of joy, and there's basically no other way to describe that feeling. Your heart races, and your breath quickens (of course). I think all of us have felt that feeling, on a hot date, watching the matrix, learning of something fabulous, or smiling at a girl you like when she smiles back, but never had the word to describe it.

Many friends have taken a liking to "joygasm". In fact, a friend of a friend's life was influenced when he heard of the word, and then when he had a joygasmic experience, he was able to identify it, "So I'm having a joygasm, now, right?" Ha ha. I laughed anyway.

I haven't used this new word much lately, it was invented last year, but I'm gonna try bringing it back into circulation, now that I think of it. Free feel to steal.

Ps, hehe @ 'shong', and laughs @ richard for 'comfinkerary'

Hey, let me answer for Scott, who was capitalized, last time I looked.

<simpsons></simpsons> denotes that the test between the two simpsons is stolen from the brilliant animated Fox Network show, "The Simpsons," which had it's jiggly beginnings on the Tracey Ullman Show, or so I hear.

That quote was from episode 211A, "Bart Gives George Bush a Snuggy," which was one of the better ones.

I like "joygasm," but I'm afraid to use it.

There's a really good joke in there somewhere, but someone else will have to go looking.

Oh wait, my cat wants to type something:

R.A.B., they're fake HTML tags, indicating that it's a Simpsons joke. See Richard's post for more details.
