The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 2/16/2005; 8:55 AM Online debates are much more fun if you play them for points. Here is a game I think we can all participate in: Pointless Accusations of Evil. To play this game, you must spend enough time observing your online opponent(s) to identify some group they are associated with, such as Christians, Wiccans, environmentalists, or scientists. Or--even better--identify some opinion of theirs that you can link in some fashion to some opinion held by somebody in Nazi Germany. Then, make a post of the general form "You are evil, because you are (Christian, Wiccan, Nazi) and when they were in charge, (some horrible thing) happened. Points are awarded by the following system:
Let me repost an instructive example of how to creatively play the game: "All you non-white, non-male, non-Mark, non-Morgan, non-atheist, non-paid-to-work-at-your-house, non-Oregonian, non-brown-haired, non-in-your-thirties, non-skinny, non-goateed, non-lazy, non-iMac-owning people are all evil and responsible for the horrors in the world. To Hell with you all!" It's a fun game. Join us! (This game was inspired by musings on Godwin's Law. Why end the discussion at Hitler when that's when you can start having the most fun with it?)
Fun with The Game By: Mark Morgan on 8/25/2000; 3:53 PM Obviously the Game strikes a chord with people; I know ScottN mentions it regularly on Slashdot, and a poster over at Nicentral tried to win the Game by making a post as offensive as possible. And now somebody I've never even heard of points doctors to it. Yay! Anyone coming from over there, welcome aboard. Read some things, hmmm? But the topic at hand: it's time to expand the game. The piece I mentioned above talks about how tobacco companies have taken the place of Hitler in online medical discussions. Over at Slashdot it's Microsoft. The Game was fun to write; I'm going to add some more scoring, points, and as always, if you have any ideas, send them this way.
How I know all writers at this site are neo-conservative nazi liberal skinhead KKK scum: By: Richard Davidson on 12/31/2000; 10:39 PM First of all, writers are socialists, and liberals. Second of all, I demand every ONE of you leave this site immediately. Every story on this entire site is an attempt to convert children to your pro-gay, neo-fascist horrorshow agenda, which you were taught by communist monkey lovers, who were the very same Stalinists that ran the death camps in Prague. What once passed for closet hippy mentality is now simply nothing more than a return to the burning times, or even more closely mirroring the McCarthy-esque witchhunts which were responsible for burning more witches than even witchburning, which was pretty bad, when you think about it. Which brings me to this quote by Martin Niemoeller: "In Germany they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up" Anyone who would argue with that post is a Fascist, obviously dedicated to Mussolini, or possibly a fitness freak, dedicated to the strange writings of Richard Simmons, one of the ten most evil people to ever merge the KKK with Weight Watchers, another truly evil organization. It's conservative liberals like you that are causing America to return to the days of Trilateral Commision's perverted witchhunting witchburning KKK activist liberal dogma socialist pinheads. And don't forget the CIA! It's those liberal fascist conservatives that caused Malcolm X and Barney to get loose on the subway, leaving only the FBI to protect us. Writers. You all make me sick!
RE: How I know all writers at this site are neo-conservative nazi liberal skinhead KKK scum: By: Mark Morgan on 1/1/2001; 12:02 AM Bravo performance! +2 for humor and good grace!
Suggestion for THE GAME By: ScottN on 10/13/2001; 12:04 AM How about a half-point for commenting about how all right-thinking people think your way? Oh, and All right-thinking people believe that the RIAA and the MPAA are neo-fascist scum. If you think otherwise, you are obviously a wrong-thinking neo-conservative liberal Stalinist who should be banned from this board!. Remember this adaptation of Martin Niemoeller: First they came for the WareZ d00d5, but I wasn't a WareZ d00d. After all, the Trilateral Commission supports the WIPO treaty which led to the DMCA.
RE: Suggestion for THE GAME By: Mark Morgan on 10/3/2001; 12:19 PM I bet I know where, and who, this is about. Good call.
RE: Suggestion for THE GAME By: ScottN on 10/13/2001; 12:06 AM Mark, I've tweaked the flame on my previous post... how many do I score? I know that I don't come close to Richard's brilliant sally, but I'm trying...
RE: Fun with The Game By: ScottN on 10/31/2001; 2:57 PM Alas, the doctor link is no more!
RE: Fun with The Game By: Mark Morgan on 11/15/2001; 12:57 PM +1 in The Game to Dave Winer. (And a bonus cookie for for making Manila have completely unreadable permalinks!)
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Ben Doyle on 4/26/2002; 11:54 PM cant you all see that anyone who would actually write a story with out copying and pasting the rules underneath (like this) death camps, torture a specific official of the evil group by name witchburning, witchhunting, McCarthyism, or "the burning times." the Trilateral Commission, the Illuminati, the CIA, the KGB, or any other conspiracy-related groups,(what about sd-6, or the PTA, dont get me started on girlscouts. then on to my favorite quote being lutheran and all by Martin Niemoeller: "In Germany they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up." are all stupid fascist members of the Klu (isn't it Ku Klux Klan, oh well) Klux Klan and is obviously a neo-neo-liberal conservative or was it conservative liberal, oh well it the same type of scum and should leave (i know thats kind of weak but, hey, its still worth two points if you dont call glass, right?) I HATE YOU ALL. you know why? thats right cause you're EVIL. just kidding (in case that wasn't too obvious) (actually im just jealous cause im not creative enough to score points on my own)
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: ScottN on 4/23/2002; 5:15 PM Mark, are you now non-Oregonian? Where do you and MJ live now?
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 4/24/2002; 3:37 AM Still Portland, Oregon, best city on Earth. Why do you ask?
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Rachelle King on 4/24/2002; 12:25 PM Hey, I used to live in Depot Bay, Oregon. Is that place still around or did tourists slowely invade and sabotage the place.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: ScottN on 4/24/2002; 1:01 PM Because if you moved to Arizona (Didn't MJ used to live there?) you'd be a non-Oregonian. See your inital post on this board :-) a
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Aradia on 4/24/2002; 6:09 PM Yeah, but he's already screwed, Scott. He is now a "non-paid-to-work-at-your- house" and a "non-goateed" evil sort of person.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: ScottN on 6/3/2002; 11:28 PM If he's non-goateed, then how can he even think about being an Evil OverlordTM? Speaking of Overlords, how are the 'Bots doing? Haven't heard too much from them recently.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 8/5/2002; 10:34 AM +1 in The Game to Dave Winer: "A telling comment from Glenn Reynolds last night, and now I have a clue what a warblogger is. I may try to write a definition. It'll probably involve the words blow and hard, and examples from playgrounds. Dangerous stuff. Watch out for the humiliation, that's where holocausts come from." Why yes, just the other day I was thinking, damn, the petty bickering between webloggers is just another krystallnacht waiting to happen!
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 11/26/2002; 11:23 PM + 1 to Winerlog. Sad proof that a link to Conversant in your sidebar doesn't automatically mean you're cool. Whoever the zaphodim are, they've got the "unfunny nitwit" thing down cold.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: John Gagon on 2/28/2003; 12:44 AM More points for: using the word "so-called" accusing others of "lying" mentioning the media / "propaganda" appealing to studies excessive critical thinking tactic. (1 pt each for "red herring", "straw man", "ad hominem".)
RE: The propagandists lies to you! By: John Gagon on 2/28/2003; 12:56 AM Whoever is promoting this is quite transparently part of that same fascist, neo-eugenecist, radical fundamentalist ideal. This game is just another Hundred Flowers movement in the name of yet another commie Great Cultural Revolution. You pro-commie, anti-capitalist, liberal scum are just out to expose the common man in your new witchhunt against individuality. This is hardly different than Hitler, Stalin or David Koresh as we all know they are related by having an active role in participating in spreading the mark of the beast and covering for the Satanic underground. You should be ashamed of yourself! Better yet, you should leave and stop with the ad hominems against those who would uprightly defy you. Your evil hatred is just 1984 and the Thought police all over again. Don't worry, there are now grassroot groups and think tanks with enough people aware of your plot and power enough to insurrect you and your daily oppression.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 2/28/2003; 9:22 PM Excellent John! You had me going there with the subject change--when I got this in e-mail I almost had a fit. +2 for fooling the admin!
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: R.A.B. on 3/1/2003; 3:18 AM That was sly. A good one I must say.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 3/24/2003; 9:45 PM Woo-hoo! Less than a week into the war and I find people playing The Game ("I'll take Niemoeller for the block") without me even looking for it! Go Team! Go Team! Gooooooooooooo.............Team!
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Ben C on 3/24/2003; 11:32 PM I was gonna post a most vile post attacking homosexuals. But I decided ... not to. SO, Merry Christmas, *you* muslim bastard.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Chie Theresa Fujioka on 3/29/2003; 7:42 AM I'm curious how many people states-side are most excellently peace-loving? It is a most bogus thing that those exposed to the un-triumphant American press all seem to have the same opinion of the war. I've had US Propaganda (TM) recited word for word back to me; I find it most frightening.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 1/4/2004; 3:28 PM Yea verily, I say unto you: there are scientists on one side...and brilliant Gamesmanship on the other side. Go team creationism! Go for that high score!
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 5/5/2004; 8:42 PM +1 in The Game to Boing Boing for letting us know that the House UnAmerican Activities Committee was most noted for standing before Congress and demanding of parents "*LISTEN AND COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CHILD.*" McCarthyism never sounded so scary! (Thanks to Brian Carnell for pointing this out.)
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 5/6/2004; 9:05 AM +1 in The Game to the New York Times, for making this hilarious comparison: "Still, I.R.C. perhaps most closely resembles the cantina scene in "Star Wars'': a louche hangout of digital smugglers, pirates, curiosity seekers and the people who love them (or hunt them). There seem to be I.R.C. channels dedicated to every sexual fetish, and I.R.C. users speculate that terrorists also use the networks to communicate in relative obscurity. Yet I.R.C. has its advocates, who point to its legitimate uses." Because if you're a bored geek, the terrorists have won. Citation: Boing Boing, which is having a banner week in The Game. Now if they could just decide what side they're playing.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Mark Morgan on 2/16/2005; 8:57 AM +1 in The Game to bondaldi over at Metafilter. "We've always deleted comments in eastasia, we always will. I feel for Matt. I got some commentary about the signal-to-noise ratio at Unreason so I created The Cauldron of Stories as a venting place and nobody but me posts there.
The Re the pointless accusations of evil game By: Thomas Locke on 6/11/2005; 8:22 PM I have it from a good source that the promoter of this game is actually in colusion with the CIA, remnants of the KGB a.k.a the Russian mafia, and free masons who are in fact serving the illuminati. To what evil purpose one might ask to what end, it's very simple this game is actually a secret form of brain washing designed during the Johnson administration by right wing neo conservative fascists, as a branch of the M.K. ultra project. These same forces are also responsible for the Kennedy assasination. If this seems a little far fetched to you then you have already been subverted by these evil forces and should leave the sight immediatly. Once there task of warping the minds of an entire generation of bloggers is complete they will use this giant propoganda machine to help set up a one world gov't of Orwelian design any one who refuses to submit will be rounded up and forced into death camps.
RE: The Pointless Accusations of Evil Game By: Brian Webber on 7/20/2005; 3:36 PM The game now has new life among fans of kevin Smith movies. ;-) http://viewaskew.com/theboard/viewtopic.php?t=36423 Oh, I should let you know that a $2 donation to RAINN is required to join the site. But it's a good cause so it's worth it.
