I noticed that this was in alphabetical order. Is this poetry? All I see is a bunch of statements, some that I agree with and some that I don't.

I don't agree with a lot of them either. It's a poem based on a collection of contradictory statements made my friends and family. The alphabetical thing was on purpose.

Brian,
dope concept. I think maybe you should go all the way to "Z" and call it the ABC's of American Opinion ur sumthin. It would also be effective to have just two or three represenatives from each letter of the alphabet, and maybe some more internal and external rhyme, like these two lines:
"Sex differences are here to stay
Starvation is nature's way"
I think the piece would also have a profound impact if you centralized the theme more. Its a good concept that all of us should try: Finding the contradictions in everyday life and creating an effective representaion out of the contradictions. dope. dope. dope.

Um. Okay folks. I'm gonna come clean and say I don't know anything about you or this forum. I came across this thread while searching for info on Jenny Holzer, an artist known for using "truisms" in her work such as those listed here by Brian Webber.

In fact she uses those EXACT truisms. Every one. Word for word. I found this page by entering "Killing is unavoidable but is nothing to be proud of" into Google, looking for info on Ms. Holzer.

Brian, are you trying to claim authorship here? I'm sure Jenny wouldn't mind if you did -- I doubt she herself would claim as much -- but I'm not sure what you expect to gain from it.

Those of you interested in Holzer's work should get excellent results by searching for "Jenny Holzer" at google.com.

Hi, Lucius. Yes, a little time spent at Google reveals this bio and several pages of her web project, such as this one. Clicking on that for a while shows pages and pages of these truisms.

I am going to unpublish this for now and contact Brian about this.

Hello all. At Brian's request the original post was deleted. It seems he fell afoul of Bad Companions, who "helped" him write this by not telling him this was not original work.

Thanks Mark. BTW, what the hell happened to the Authors section? IM-UR has returned (this time as Mediard.com) and sicne I've shared my articles from here with them and vice versa I've been reposting my essays here over there, but today I went in to copy a few more (of mine) and the Author section was ENTIRELY blank!

I don't know. Time to go to tech support. In the meantime, the site map still has your authors page listed. (BTW, my apologies to all the authors who are still not listed as authors. I thought I had a profile system working that I could roll the author bios into, but it failed at a critical point. I'm catching up now.)

And, they fixed it. How's that for good support?

Yeah, nice. Much better than Microsoft's tech support. "Shut up and reboot. Now hang up." :-)
