I was at an autism conference with my mom, By: Evan on 4/1/2002; 9:59 PM when it suddenly occurred to me that Yoda from Star Wars meets the criteria for being autistic (or maybe just asperger's syndrome). Autism- A psychiatric (The whole psychiatric part is actually wrong!!!!!!!!!!! It is actually a neurodevelopmental disorder. Stupid www.dictionary.com) disorder of childhood characterized by marked deficits in communication and social interaction, preoccupation with fantasy, language impairment, and abnormal behavior, such as repetitive acts and excessive attachment to certain objects. It is usually associated with intellectual impairment (That last sentence is also plain wrong but that is really beside the point now, I had intended only to include this for those of you who might not know what autism is by virtue of you're not having a brother who has a form of it but now I'm a bit peeved with the dictionary people for having a definition that is over twenty years out of date in addittion to having things that are just plain untrue. Autism is in no way associated with intellectual impairment, in fact the tendency is for autistic people to be exceptionally intelligent but have a great deal of difficulty with their interactions with others due to poor social skills.). Okay back to the actual point of this post, and that is Yoda. Yoda seems to be autistic (of course he could simply be from a whole autistic race where the inherent social problems would not be as evident) at least to me because he has some unusual behaviors and seems to have difficulty with stating points clearly and speaking backwards grammar. He also possesses insignts that most people don't have, just like autistic people. Think of it this way, most people(and possibly most short furry green aliens who sound like Grover)think in straight lines when working on something but an autistic person/short furry green thingy thinks in a squiggly line. The net result being that autistic people can find there way around certain problems that cause problems for more linear thinkers. I just thought I'd share my diarrhea of thoughts with you.
RE: I was at an autism conference with my mom, By: Bradley John Dinan on 4/12/2002; 12:03 AM Love the association u've connected between the (much ought to be) beautiful beings who have incarnated to show us that the way we are currently running things is definitely not the only way : ) And Yoda...the master teacher. Love how he speaks do I : ) Blessings and light to u my friend. And get that definition changed!!!!!! You are the power in your world!!!!!! Namaste
RE: I was at an autism conference with my mom, By: Evan on 4/12/2002; 10:24 AM The real definition as per the DSM IV is accurate so I don't know why the dictionary has the wrong definition. What's really freaking me out though is that you have the same first and middle name as my brother and are the first person to apply to this post which is aboujt his disorder. I guess its just one of those weird coincidences, like the fact that the song "Did you ever have to make up your Mind" comes on the radio whenever I go get propane for my dad's grill.
