It could be worse

It could be worse
By: lindsay on 5/22/2002; 4:59 PM

What if I swim in a pool of chlorine
And then, the next day, my hair has turned green?

What if I drop my pen in the sink
And then, when I write, it runs out of ink?

What if I make a big fool of myself
And then my crush puts me on the shelf?

What if, one day, the computer has crashed
And now everything I did is trashed?

What if I get a poor school grade And then I have to become a maid? What if my shoulder and back pain are sore And it hurts so much I can't ignore? What if I swim and almost drown And then wasn't able to move around? So what if my hair is green And my pen is out of ink And my crush puts me on the shelf And the computer crashed And I have to become a maid And my back is sore And I almost drown!!

First and foremost, there is nothing wrong with green hair. I like green hair. You're right about how it could be worse, you're not at taco bell!

I like the sentiment. I've noticed a lot of the poetry around these parts is teenagers struggling to gain some perspective on their lives.

Hey mark, no offense, but you can completely destroy the whole feeling of a conversation by making statements and analysisises of it. Besides, I am a teenager and I have plenty of perspective on my life. (Dammit where are my cheez-its? Yes jimmy, i'll go out with her. Hey sister, am I going out with anyone right now? Oh yeah, almost forgot about her. Sorry jimmy, I forgot I already had a girlfriend.) What was I saying now? Oh yeah, I have plenty of perspective on my life.

Maybe Mark was trying to contribute to the conversation? I'm glad you have plenty of perspective on your life. Maybe the other teen posters here don't have full perspective, and are trying to explore their limits. Mark was just commenting on that (without being judgemental in any way), and you didn't have to come down on him like that.

I see what you're saying ScottN, I didn't mean to rain out mark's parade. When I rain I pour. At that time, after reading that poem and all, to me it didn't seem to fit in. It's like getting done with an adavnced calculus lecture when someone from the back shouts "What's a variable?". And when he posted that, to me it sounded like he was disobeying the big third person rule. What is the big third person rule? It's a rule that says it's not nice to talk about someone in third person when they are present. It never feels quite right when someone is discussing or commenting about you and refers to you as a third person when you can read it yourself. Do you get what I'm saying?

i haven't been on in three or four days now

and i was writing this because of my life right now. sometimes i think my life is the pits, but then i see something and realize that things could be worse. i decided to put it in words, and as i said before, it's still in rough draft. it might change.

I like this poem, and it reminds me of the band "green jelly".
