Alex, is The Closet a poem? If so, could you just cut and paste it into a new message, instead of attaching it? The system's not really cut out to convert documents automatically.

Alex, are you trying to say that you are one of those people that just throws some words people like on paper and call it poetry. i.e. "rainbows like spring rain, gods grace fills the air, we're a happy family"? I am one of those more violent writers. "SMG's like summer heat, bullets fill the air, I used to have a family". Just kidding. But do you really write well or do people just like your words?

There's a difference?

Yes. I consider writing to be words that are somewhat connected to eachother. Words are just things you pronounce with individual meanings. For example, if you were to write "penetrate. starburst. quislingism." you might like the words. But if you were to write "I like to penetrate starburst factories with quislingism." you might like what you've written. Do you get it yet?

I think Adam is trying to do some constructive criticism. I still don't see you point, though, Adam.

My original point...I was asking if people just liked his words or his writing. There's a lot of people I know who just write stuff like "and a spring rainbow through the forest happiness rainbow" and if someone likes the word rainbow they'll call it good writing. I was askign if he does this, or if he actually makes connections between all the words.

Interesting question, although I would say that what matters is the work he (or anyone) posts. Says the man who has not posted a piece of writing in a long, long time.

"What matters" would be a whole different battle.

But I wonder, is a piece of work good writing just because it makes sense? Or because it was a utility by which the author poured some of himself out? Although it might not lie well on the ears or a critic, surely it is useful...

Just my thoughts. I'm feeling a bit over-protective, since this is a good friend of mine (: and I want him to have a warm welcome... especially considering that many of my other friend/writers seem to be AWOL or maybe with leave

I think we went through this a long time ago with "he who shall not be named", on whether non-traditional poetry was poetry...

See the entire thread here.

Oh, and Mark, Happy second VoU anniversary 10 days ago (at least, that's where the "Search" page starts -- 3/16/00).
