Years behind the cutting edge
By: Mark Morgan on 2/2/2002; 11:10 PM

Dinking around tonight with Blogger on the new test site.

Stream of consciosness first impressions: very elegant interface. I'm pretty computer savvy, but that sure is a straightforward interface that does one thing and does it well. It's easy to figure out Blogger's featureset, all the settings are on one page. My grandma would probably need some handholding, but my mom would figure it out in two seconds. Having a built-in archive of templates is way cool for the newbie, but I'm already chafing at the bit to dink with it. (No time for that, writing to do.) If you want anything more than a weblog you'd need more than Blogger for sure. Neat how you can FTP to anywhere in the virtual universe.

As part of their weblog plugin upgrade, Macrobyte Resources should license Duncan Smeed's Blog This! bookmarklet for Conversant. I always wondered about that thing, and it turns out to just be a bookmarklet. Must be very handy.

A couple of feature requests are right there, like a setting to hard wrap text. Interesting little tool. I can see why it's so popular--it's a massive case of underwhelming interface.
