Discussion Group Changes By: Mark Morgan on 1/5/2002; 12:20 AM I've implemented some recent improvements. Now, if you're a member, you should see a reply box right at the bottom of a thread. Or, a logon field if you're at a computer that's not logged on. I also made some other cosmetic improvements, as well as getting the discussion pages as HTML 4.01 Transitional compliant as possible. Mark's beginning to love his copy of HTML Tidy for the Mac. Love it.

After seeing your page, I did something like this on my animalrights.net site and a couple users offered a suggestion which you might want to consider -- adding a Reply link to each message that links to the replyform box. If I am at http://www.voicesofunreason.com/fullthread$4540, for example, I have to do quite a bit of scrolling to get to the reply box. But if you add a link before the "Edit" looking something like: <a href="#replyform">Reply</a> and then right before the messagereplyform macro, put in a named anchor like: <a name="replyform"></a> It makes it a lot easier to navigate. One other suggestion. On the Edit link, you could use a macro like, <!--#if condition="(username == <!--#msgCreatorAddress-->) || (userisconvadmin)"--> [EDIT LINK] <!--#endif--> so the edit link only appears for people who truly have the right to edit the message.
RE: Discussion Group Changes By: Mark Morgan on 1/5/2002; 12:25 PM The anchors are a great idea, until I just give up and go to pagination. And lose the bookmarks (pout). Brian, you need to read docs more often--it's easiest to just code <!--#msgEditLink editorsonly="true"--> which I originally should have done. Noted for the record, Chie, you'll note the genre and publish this dropdowns aren't in this reply box. Start a new thread if you want to have something published, dear. That might be important in future features.

I like the logon box you have down at the bottom if I'm not logged in. Can you think of a way, though, that this could be redirected back to the original fullthread page if the logon is successful? I see this in UBB forums a lot, where if I hit on "Reply" and am not logged in, I'll be taken to a logon page, and then once I put my username and password in, I get routed back to the reply page for the original message. I was thinking I could redirect that with a hidden input field just like with the Reply form, but I see that that only seems to apply to NewThreads and Replies and Edits. Do you see a way to do this that I'm missing? Brian

RE: Discussion Group Changes By: Mark Morgan on 1/5/2002; 8:36 PM For those of you playing the home game, we figured out a way to do this. Yay! Let's hear it for company presidents who don't know when to stay on vacation. Thanks Seth!
