Straight from the Box
By: Eoghainn Oniongardail on 12/31/2001; 2:43 PM

(1985)

Straight from the box,
our new toy robot
performed its first task:
to play with the dog.
Later in the evening,
it tossed a log upon the fire
and changed the baby's diaper
just like Pa.

A martin blew in
from our sooty chimney.
Its wings were burnt,
so we put it in a cage.
Timmy captured roaches
and dropped them through the wires,
but our happy home
could never be conveyed.

At dawn our Roby
buried the tiny bird
and solemnly intoned
the fitting words.
