My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Mark Morgan on 11/1/2001; 9:09 PM Checking disk Elroy. Checking "Mac OS Standard" volume structures. Checking "Mac OS Extended" volume structures. Checking for locked volume name. Checking extent BTree. Problem: Invalid BTree Header, 0, 0 Checking extent file. Checking catalog BTree. Checking catalog file. Problem: Invalid PEOF, 3409, 667 Test done. Problems were found, but Disk First Aid cannot repair them. I don't quite know what all that means, but it sure sounds bad.
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Mark Morgan on 11/3/2001; 2:15 PM ***PROFANITY!!!**** Matthew Patterson informs me that this means Elroy's about to fall over and die. No, I don't have a disk utility, thankyouverymuch. Nice knowing you all.
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: ScottN on 11/3/2001; 9:27 PM RIP Elroy. Now, on to my problem. I'm getting a new machine for my birthday (yay!) and I need a name for it.
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Matthew Patterson on 11/3/2001; 9:56 PM Scott, that probably deserves a :P. In order to name it, we're going to need more details than *that.* What sort of machine is it? Specs? OS? (Hopefully *not* WinXP.) Without knowing anything about it, I suggest the name Celia, mostly because I really like that character in "As You Like It." Of course, that name is not guaranteed to reflect the personality of said machine. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Mark Morgan on 11/3/2001; 10:56 PM Elroy's not gone yet, folks. He's just sleeping, while I figure out a way to back his up files and wipe the hard drive. If it's an XP system, I suggest Roberts. As in, "The Dread Pirate...."
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: ScottN on 11/4/2001; 10:13 PM Nope, it's not XP, I wouldn't touch that piece of garbage with a 10 foot pole (or czech, or russian...) It's dual boot, running Win2K and Linux. I'd name it Roberts... If only I had a wheelbarrow.
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Mark Morgan on 11/13/2001; 8:00 PM So, I'll just back everything up and reinstall from scratch overtop of a freshly formatted hard disk. Right after I get done backing up Elroy onto the new toy that Aradia bought me. Ooooo.....a gadget..... Works like a charm. I'm running the backed up Internet Explorer off it as I type. Mark likes new toys.
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: Matthew Patterson on 11/13/2001; 9:16 PM Wow, I never thought you'd get a burner before me. Hmm, well, now I know what to ask for for Christmas. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
RE: My sensors detect the approach of....danger! By: ScottN on 12/10/2001; 1:59 PM Now, on to my problem. I'm getting a new machine for my birthday (yay!) and I need a name for it. Alas! Pride goeth before the fall! It would seem that my hard drive is toast (and it's only 5 weeks old!)... And it ain't just a Windoze problem, the Linux partition won't boot either. It boots, LILO runs, and finds both OSen. But when Win2K starts to boot up, it BSOD's and tells me that it can't find the boot partition (when it obviously was able to find it before). Linux gives similar error messages, plus, I get fun little "click/click/click" noises. Yecch. Well, luckily, I haven't got too much on this drive yet, and that's what warranties are for... However, I have to bring it into the store where I bought it, and wait for a while... yecch... So, as you can see, I am deeply sympathetic to what you went through with Elroy. Though the earlier comment (RIP) was not intended to be snide but also and expression of sympathy... At least now I have a name for my beast... Yorick. As in "Alas poor Yorick!"
