Usage of Quotes 2 By: Brian Webber on 10/22/2001; 12:25 PM "He who establishes his argument by noise and command shows that his reason is weak." - Michel de Montaigne OK, I freely admit to having been guilty of this myself, but when you get verbally assaulted by someone who then claims that they did nothing wrong (i.e. Peter and my family), it's hard NOT to speak up. But what about those who complain about using CAPS? Well, it all comes down to moderation really. Using the Cap Lock is fine for cerrtain words that you want to emphasize. For example, when I say, "I'm against ORGANIZED religion," I'm making sure people know where my emphasis lies. So, when it comes to caps, use moderation. And before you say ANYTHING to me about my use of CAPS, remember this cliche; those who can't do, teach. "There is no conversation more boring than the one where everybody agrees." - Michel de Montaigne Once again we go to Mr. de Montaige to describe certain people we all know. To certain people and organizations that shall go nameless becuase, frankly, anyone who DOESN'T know who I'm talking about probably isn't smart enough to be logged on her anyway, that would be an ideal world. Where everyone belived in the same God, had the same ideology, and the same 'morals.' But this quote sums up pretty succintly why such a world would not work. progress would halt. We would become stagnant as a species. That is why I'm a pseudo-anarchist. I'm just anarchial enough to upset the balance, but I tend to follow such actions by sitting on my ass and reading a book for a few hours. "The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance...logic can be happily tossed out the window." - Stephen King 'Nuff said. There's really nothing I could add to this quote. "Theology is never any help; it is searching in a dark cellar at midnight for a black cat that isn't there. Theologians can persuade themselves of anything." - Robert A. Heinlein Same as with Stephen King's quote. I really can't add anything to this. "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself." - Harvey Fierstein This particular quote is probably better read than heard, as hearing those words in Fierstein's gravelly voice would be too humourous for anyone to take it seriously. But I digress. The point is, this is a VERY inspirational quote, and I'm sure anyone here could find a way to apply it to their own lives. "Men always want to be a woman's first love - women like to be a man's last romance." - Oscar Wilde Well, I can't speak for women (I can periodically dres slike them and will continue to do so), but I know I wouldn't mind being a woman's last romance. Maybe it's becuase I'm a realist, who has a preference for slightly older women, maybe I'm just a total sap, but either way, I kind of like the idea. "I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually." - James Baldwin, Notes of a Native Son And that's what Freedom of Speech is all about folks! "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." - Hanlon's Razor This is why there are certain people (again, nameless) no longer have my hatred and contmept. Instead they have my pity. In the long run, that probably pisses 'em off even more than when I hated them. :-) "Muñoz just crawled half way out of the hole we dug for him thirty years ago. You hit him with a shovel before he crawls all the way out." - Steven Hill, Law & Order This quote has no practical purpose. I just felt like putting ina line from Law & Order. Doesn't it just suck that Angie Hamron is going to be leaving the show? :-( "Bush Sr. was a jerk, Quayle an idiot, Clinton was atrocious and disgusting, most of those who persecuted him were hypocritical, Gore is shallow and weak, Bradley is an idealist, Bush Jr. a fool, and all of the independent candidates act like they're on drugs." - David Borenstein On the politics of the 1990's I just thought that one was funny.
