Usage of Quotes 1
By: Brian Webber on 10/22/2001; 12:39 PM

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." - Salvor Hardin

The Religious Right has threatened violence against those who most vocally oppose their hate filled diatribes. Remember that website with the names of doctors who performed abortions, and every time one of them was assassinated (one of them right in front of his wife and children!) their name was crossed off?

"Never let your sense of morals get in the way of doing what's right." - Isaac Asimov

Peter, NitCentral user and affirmed member of the Religous Right, does this A LOT! He claims to be in favor of free society, yet his "moral" upbringing has led him to call for the banning of chewing gum, not allowing any gay characters on television, and the death penalty for anyone who speaks against God and Country. Well, OK, that last one was an exageration, but you see where I'm going.

"A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject." - Winston Churchill

Boy this one speaks for itself doesn't it?

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao-Tzu and Einstein and Morobuto and Buddy Holly and Aristophenes .. and all of this .. all of this was for nothing unless we go to the stars." - Michael O'Hare, Babylon 5

No purpose. Just felt like quoting Babylon 5.

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." - President George W. Bush, Jr.

That's the guy who has access to the button ladies and gentlemen. Please place your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

"Attempts to adapt literary properties, sans authorial input have fared poorly. Some designers hew so close to the original that they may just as well have typed the original text into an ASCII file and left it at that. Others are so bold that they attempt to inject their own ideas into the author's work - a hubristic misstep, since such accretions invariably announce themselves to be just that, by blending into the author's universe as inconspicuously as a stripper at a wake. Reader's of the author's work escapse such games either bored, offended, or in some memorable insances, both." - Charles Adai, in his review for the PC game The Lord of the Rings Vol. 1, April 1999

Even with authorial input it won't neccesarily work. See the failure that is Anne McCaffrey's Freedom First Resitance. Man, that game sucks!

"Try everything once. Except incest and folk dancing." - Sir Thomas Beecham

I like that quote. It's very funny.

"Why can't Jesus play hockey? He keeps getting nailed to the boards." - Unknown

Sometimes you just have to go out of your way to offend somebody. :-)

Anita Miller: "FECK YOU!"
Elaine Miller: "HEY!"
Anita Miller: "This is a house of lies!"
Elaine Miller: "Well there it is, your sister used the "F" word.
William Miller: "I think she said 'feck.'"
Elaine Miller: "What's the difference?"
William Miller: "The letter 'u.'"
-Zooey Deschanel, Frances McDormand, and Michael Angarano, Almost Famous

Ah, the beauty of semantics. I am going to questiuon you VOR people now. Do you side with Elaine, who believes that FECK and FUCK are the same, or shall we side with William?

"26 people killed in the film and no one bats an eyebrow. One dead animal, and all hell breaks loose." - Francis Ford Coppola, on the furor over the Horse's Head scene in The Godfather

That was in the 70s. Scary how true that statement STILL is, isn't it?

"Actions are immoral. Opinions are not, and I won't apologize for mine. Discussion is good. And for those of us fortunate enough to be the subject of magazine articles, it may be our responsibility from time to time to try and raise the level of debate." - Josh Charles, Sports Night

*cough cough*

"One who condones evils is just as guilty as the one who perpetrates it." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ah, once again we find ourselves reminded of certain people. I think we all know who.

"No matter how beautiful you are, beauty doesn't disguise evil." - Lisa Ling, The View

Thr truth often comes in small doses, wouldn't you say? Amazing relaly. How one simple sentence can be so insightful.

"It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone- but it takes a lifetime to forget someone..." - Unknown

Boy don't I know it.

"You can paint a turd red, but it's still a turd." - Jason Bray

I'll just let you guys ratle that one around in your brains for awhile.

"Xvxn though my typxwritxr's old, it works wxll xxcept for onx kxy. Sincx all thx othxr kxys work wxll, thx fact that mxrxly onx kxy isn't working doxsn't rxally causx that much of a problxm." - Anonymous

"Its a shame that stupidity isn't painful." - Todd Selburg

If that ain't the truth, I don't know what is.

"I'm just annoyed with [Giuliani], because if it was up to him, we would not be able to say anything against him. That's where it leads, that's the road it goes down. It has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with freedom of expression and the First Amendment, and I will defend my right to speak, ladies and gentlemen, to the death!" - Joy Behar, The View

Yeah Joy! You and Jay Leno have got that facist down to a T! Decency in Art comittee my ass! Hitler did the same thing (0.5 points), remember? No? Well, remember THIS quote from Hitler; "anyone who sees and paints the skies green and pastures blue ought to be sterilized." Ever hear of abstract art dumbass? Oh, wait, you're dead. You can't hear me.

I'm going to close this essay with two quotes, one of which comes from moi.

"As far as I'm concerned the Oscars and the Golden Globes and all those other dumb awards shows are just big self-congratulatory circle-jerks." - Brian D Webber

"People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they never use." - Kierkegaard

Brian: what, I leave nitcentral and now you start posting here? If I'd known that was what it took, I'd have left earlier...

Please change the subject of this message to the title of the piece. It'll make for an error related to your author bio if you don't. Gracias, and welcome to Unreason.

Thanks for the welcome Mark. I'd been hearing about this place for a bout a year, and I finally caved. Like always. I can remember times in my life when I said all of the following things;

"I will never use the internet." "DVDs area waste of time." "Clerks looks like a stupid movie." "I don't need a new stereo system." "I don't think Napster is all that hot."

Shows how much I know huh? :-)
