Pyra folds
By: Mark Morgan on 2/1/2001; 12:21 PM

Crap. Pyra, the creators of the Blogger weblogging tool, have collapsed. I never used Blogger; I had a shaky FTP connection at best at Crosswinds, and after that I always have used Content Management Systems that have a built-in weblog tool, first at EditThisPage and now at Free-Conversant.

Pyra always engendered strong, usually positive feelings. The people of Pyra--Jack Saturn, Megnut, pb, Matt and Evan--used their own tool and gave people insight into their lives. As is always the case with human beings, you connect to people by telling stories. They told stories, and people connected. So while this is Yet Another Dot-Com caught in the fallout, it's a dotcom that people knew as people. It should be interesting to see how Blogger fares post-Pyra. They just got a big wave of publicity, too. Damn.
