Super Bowl Commercials

So which ones were your favorite?

I liked (in no particular order)

  • Garry Kasparov vs. the computer (Pepsi)
  • Guy shakes beer bottle, soaks his girlfriend (Bud)
  • Running of the Squirrels (EDS)
  • "What are you doing"? (Bud - "Whaazzzup" spoof)
  • "Whazzup!" Aliens (don't remember product)
  • People crushing dolls on the street (don't remember product)

  • Just my $0.02.

The alien "Wassup" was Bud, too. I thought the "What are you doing?" was gut-bustingly hilarious, so it gets my vote, along with the Bud Light "Here's two more logs for that fire."

Adcritic has all the superbowl ads for those with high-speed connections or a lot of patience.

Totally OT, but what the hey, when have we *EVER* stayed on-topic here.

Was it me, or did it look like the NFL was going after the all-important preteen girl football fan demographic?

    Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Britney...

    Thank G-d for Ray Charles!

A fun quote from the KNX-1070 (L.A.) Entertainment critic on the halftime show. "Any rock star who needs a Tele-Prompter to sing 'Walk This Way' doesn't deserve to be called a rock star."

Also OT, but did anyone else notice that the Blimp was not for "Budweiser", but for "Budweiser.com"?

I miss the good old days when all we had was the Goodyear Blimp. And we were glad to have it too, because we didn't have no fancy "dot-coms", but we had values! And the games were better too!

The guy crushing dolls commercial was for Snickers.

The ads I really detested were the anti-tobacco ones. Here CBS refuses PETA's anti-leather ads on the grounds that the Super Bowl isn't the place for heavy handed political ads, but here's this guy hooked up to a computerized voice box for those people too stupid to notice the warning labels on cigarettes.

If it wasn't so dangerous, I'd take up smoking just in protest of anti-tobacco commercials.

Yikes. I'm feeling like a teenage girl because I thought the halftime show
was very well done. I hate a) halftime shows and b) boy bands, but that was
very well done (then again I was biased as soon as Adam Sandler showed up
in the pre-concert mini-video which was hilarious).

I would never listen to any of the CDs by the musicians onstage, but
considering the Michael Jackson halftime show a few years ago, this was one
    of the best.

    >Thank G-d for Ray Charles!

Yes. Very nice version of America the Beautiful.

That was amusing. You'd have thought they would have done more to hide the
fact that Tyler had his own private karaoke machine onstage. On the other
hand, given all the drugs and alcohol that man has consumed...

BTW, in my opinion the cheesiest thing in the world is to actually attend
an NFL game. If you think the stuff on TV is cheesy it is nothing compared
to the crap you have to endure if you pony up $35 to sit in lousy seats for
    a game.

    Brian,

The pre-teen girl thing was my rant, not Mark's.
