Search engine backups! By: Mark Morgan on 1/5/2001; 12:03 PM I don't think this ever would have occured to me. Jake Savin had a hard drive die, and a website with it, no backup. But...the Google search engine caches your site when it crawls it. So Jake used Google as his backup. Great tip!

Plus Google seems to keep surprisingly current. A few weeks ago I was doing a Google search and a recent page from VOU was among the hits that were returned.

However I use SearchCactus.com which uses the google engine, but lets me get money for certain sites. If you notice, many of my papers with web site resources use the cached versions of pages when they have been removed from the server. :)
