Cleanup in the DG By: Mark Morgan on 12/23/2000; 1:22 PM I continue to add navigation to the threaded discussion view, which is hopefully helpful, but, man is it cluttered in those messages now. There are several imperfections in the navigation. If a message is the top of a thread, the back arrow in this part: <-- Threaded -->, links to message 0, which does not exist. <-- Chronological --> operates properly as it uses native macros, not my hacks. Further, there is a conistent date issue in both discussion group views. The links under Previous Thread/Topic and Next Thread/Topic link to the next message according to the dates by the first link in each thread. The practical effect is if someone replies to a message or story that was posted in, say, July the previous and next links come from July. Me, I'd bounce back to the discussion group each time. After the holiday I'll think on some of these issues and see if I can't ruminate some more intuitive solutions. Your input always appreciated.
RE: Cleanup in the DG By: Mark Morgan on 12/24/2000; 5:33 PM I had the opportunity to talk ICQly with Matt Mecham, the website designer who is responsible for the good look of this place. (Hideous abominations in the design are not his; blame the 'bots.) So the single messages in the threaded discussion view look and work a lot better now. I kind of like the threaded discussion view now. Nobody tell Seth! It'll be our little secret, okay?
