Going with that Depressing Theme...
By: Richard Davidson on 3/11/2003; 9:47 PM

Why has life left me stiff and betrayed
Spent, cold, broken
A mere nasty stain on this wall
My skull impaled by the bone of a rat
To such musty, fetid stone

My soul, stretched, burning in places
Across the gates of Hell
Not in, and not out, and yet both
My heart impaled by the bloody dagger
Of love’s first, sweet kiss

Why do crowds gather and laugh
And mouth gentle obscenities
How funny I must be
Stretched out, screaming here, bleeding
What dangerous farce! Ha ha!

My feet, no longer attached to my legs
Will be dancing
I’ll whistle a merry tune
My last breath, a cheap entertainment
For any so brave as to watch

I’ll laugh at Death, and his sister
And his momma too, by God
I’ll go gladly, willingly through those doors
Into darkness, still and final
It’s gotta be better than this place

Hmm. I liked it. When I say that, I mean it literally. Had I read this two weeks ago, I would've really liked it. Two weeks ago, I was teenaged still, and thus had mounds of angst that generally pointed in that direction.

Now I am twenny.

I guess, I'm not a fan of this poem, for 3 main reasons:

1) "Dangerous farce!"

the "Ha ha!" kicks some ass, I can even envision you doing that, but if you were to change what pre-empts it (dangerous farce), even in its wording, I would love you more for it. However I doubt this is possible.

2) You stole "merry tune", from one of my poems. It is obvious.

3) I basically don't agree with you. You haven't convinced me that Hell is better. I think it is not. I would argue very strongly that it is about 111 times worse than anything you've ever heard of happening to someone else, and about 111 000 times worse than anything that's ever happened to you, and about 111 000 000 times worse than anything that's ever happened to me.

Hell sucks man. Deal with it. If you were ever invited, I bet you'd be dragged kicking and screaming shakespearean obscenities through the gates, not laughing like an 18th century comedian/jester.

------

Sorry for rambling. This poem is good. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. By the way, are you on the internet and chatting? I'd like to talk to you about somethings. I need advice on romance and I think you know what you're talking about. Tell me to fuck off if you don't feel like it though.

So I've persuaded one of the joyful personalities in this site to join my exploits to the void of depression. Mwaahahahahahaha...the apocalypse has begun...mwahahahaha...ooof! *choking on bread*

Actually, I just saw a lot of depressing poems appear lately, which made me think I should write one.

I never get depressed.

People my age shouldn't.

We're too damn busy!

Ben, I can give you advice for ALL romantic problems, with one simple answer:

Do what your heart tells you to do, regardless of what others tell you. At 20, romance shouldn't be the most important part of your life. You're nowhere NEAR ready for serious commitment, so you should have fun, and treat others with respect.

I'm not kidding, or being trite, it's true.

Sorry, I don't chat. I just can't. Too much time wasted. I will gladly answer any questions you have right here, but what I said above should cover just about everything.

Good luck, and remember:

Things that damn near DESTROYED me when I was 20 just seem kind of funny now.

My beautiful, sexy wife says the same thing.

We married three days after my 38th birthday.
