DragonBall Essay #1 By: Mandy on 10/21/2001; 5:49 PM "So what are these power level things?" "I don't watch DBZ because every time they start to battle they have to take off their cloaks and everything" "It sucks" "I don't watch cartoons" These are some responses that are given to DBZ fans when they try to recruit the non-loving masses to loving Dragon Ball Z. These responses make me mad. I am deliriously happy in delight waiting for my classes to start again so I can inform the one who said the cloak quote exactly *why* they take off their cloaks and hats when they start to battle.(Weighted clothing) I do not see why people class Dragon Ball Z as a cartoon If it were a cartoon, things would be a lot less interesting. Don't get me wrong. I like cartoons. But if it were a cartoon, no one would die no one would get hurt as badly. And most cartoons (except for Superman and Batman stuff. You notice I do not classify Pokémon here because it is an anime like DBZ.) do not have a plot line that continues from one episode to the next. And yet Dragon Ball Z and all other animes are still classified as cartoons and if an adult watches them they are considered babyish by many of their peers. I have had to use the violence in DBZ to try to get my best friend interested. It's bad when it comes to that. But still, there are many people who do not think of anime as cartoons. And that makes me happy. Because then I know that I am not alone in this, and that some day everyone will know the difference. Because the difference between anime and cartoons is like soft rock and hard rock. They may use some of the same tools sometimes, but they have great differences. Not watching something because you consider it a cartoon even though you've only seen 2 seconds is like prejudice. So please, if you are not watching DBZ because of those reasons, remember this next time you are flipping channels at 5:00 or 12:30.
RE: DragonBall Essay #1 By: Dorothy Marie on 2/18/2001; 1:09 AM i watch DBZ. i love it because it's the only anime show i know of that can put so much detail into their episodes, thereby dragging out a single encounter with a villain or any other conflict for two weeks. it's great stuff. -the dot. do you know sam?
RE: DragonBall Essay #1 By: Mark Morgan on 2/18/2001; 1:14 AM I have to step in here and apologize. I lost this author, both through some personal issues she had to attend to that kept her offline for almost a year, and the fact that I moved to the .com. I've only recently discovered a valid e-mail address and haven't had an opportunity to contact her. Hopefully she'll drop by Real Soon Now. But don't feel snubbed, please; Mandy's a very nice person.
RE: DragonBall Essay #1 By: PJ Caroon on 2/18/2001; 12:21 PM i used to have a DBZ website... Alas, it lives no longer.
