Some Kinda Rant
By: Rachelle King on 10/25/2001; 10:39 PM

Nonchalant irritation mounts the continuum today, tomorrow, and possibly the day after that. I wait for your aura to embrace my tampered ways. Disgusted by my flaws and flows, the progression of tomorrow seems unlikely. Anais Nin stares back at me progressively, beckoning me. Do you see the starry-eyed freaks press gently upon my buttons? Their eyes ablaze, mouths like crimson, breath reeks of destruction, my mind, like molasses, no match for their deviance. Wish the cognitive thoughts would attach, feverishly, like melancholy catalysts. They breed in me-those melancholies. Doris Day, Gwenyth Paltrow-all the same-mannequins with a life force. Illusions about my self-respect disintegrate, dictate my senses. Throbbing in my head has come to stay, come to play with my sanity again. Lack of sleep, lack of eat, your lack of respect for me. You know some brothers is always fuckin with my head. Tellin me to stay beautiful just to get me inta bed. Can't distinguish the truth in your shit talkin. Don't want to end up in your vocabulary's broom closet.

<In-joke>Somekinda? Must be an alien!</in-joke>

(Regarding Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise, many of us have noticed that the writers throw in "somekinda" as a short way of saying "weird, mysterious, alien". "Captain, it's somekinda tractor beam!" Sloppy writing at best, and annoying.)

Are you implying that I am annoying? Gee-wiz, I must aplogize for my insignificance. How about: "Utterly Alien and Bizarre Rant." I mean really, let's be fanatics about how important it is to maintain distance from "sloppy" writing!

Oh! No, Rachelle. Your poem is very good, and a nice example of stream of consciousness. I should have explained myself more completely last night.

Several of the core members of this site came here from nitcentral. Nitpicker Central is the home page of Phil Farrand, author of several Nitpicker's Guides. It started out as Phil's extension to his writings in between books. Now that he's not writing any more (drat!--the market for "unofficial" books for licensed media fell apart), it's primarily a bulletin board full of television shows and other media, buried in people with waaaaaayyyy too much time on their hands, looking for the nits.

Nitcentral was the first online community I was ever seriously involved with. It's where I started writing such long rants that I decided I needed my own site to put them all on. It's where I "met" my fiancee. I still moderate the topic for the television show "Angel".

And it has its in-jokes. Including "somekinda". When I saw the title of your piece, it brought a smile to my face. Not because it's a bad title, but because I still have a certain fondness for Nitpicker Central.

I apologize for assuming you meant harm. I can get defensive about my writing, as does any writer I am sure.
