What We Lose

What We Lose
By: Rachelle King on 10/24/2001; 4:40 AM

Stopped. Stopped motion.

It’s what we all fear the most. The continual decline of motion in our lives.

Not forward motion. We are always moving forward.

Moving, moving…MOVE OUTA MY WAY motion. We thrust ourselves into the crowds. All the while staying in one place.

Cry. Walk. Speak. School. Learn. Bigger school. Learn. Sex. Cry. Friends. More school. Work. No friends. House. Cook. Ring. Garage sale. Sex. New house. Store. Cook. Baby. Babies. Cry. Holiday. Month. Holiday. Week. Holiday. Birthday. Holiday. Work. Crash. Death. Cancer. Death. Baby having babies. Boxes. Snow globes. Books. Fire. Books. Tire. Holiday…

We live in worlds established by the fragmented trivial things. Lose our worlds to the fragmented trivial things.

The things that ultimately result in the void we shall harbor. Nothing but everyone but ourselves. Void. Of our thoughts in our thoughts.

We are inevitably interruptible. No questions asked…except to us…about everything.

Nothing. Nothing to show for it. Nothing but the lack of time. Lack of ourselves.

Nothing but impatience, I hate you, I love you, I hate you too, why are we out of this, this tastes horrible, I shouldn’t have gotten married, I shouldn’t of had babies, I love my babies, I hate my body, you’re beautiful, you’re a little chubby, ever think of taking up jogging, why is the furniture moved around, I need my blue shirt, where’s my blue shirt, we can’t afford it, sorry, sorry, no, all right, all right but be home early, get a job, damit, where’s the stapler, the last place you left it, there’s nothing to eat, please talk to me, why won’t you just talk to me, there’s nothing left tosay,Ineedthis,Ineedthat, Iwantthiswhereisthatwhoareyouwhycan’tIloveyouImarriedhimIhavenothingnothingbuthimandthemandnotmewhereismewhereismewhereamIIcan’tfindmewhereareyou, who are you?

And they wonder why few women write.

This is interesting. It would be a fine exercise to write a succinct biography of life in a succession of one word or one phrase sentences . . . or perhaps two biographies, one that catalogues the trivial distractions and the other unearthing the realness underneath . . . or perhaps one with the trivial and the real alternating. Sorry. Thinking out through the keyboard.

I believe that thinking through the keyboard is a habitual problem 'round these parts. That's why I stick around...

Stop yourself.

Stop the world.

Slowing time down to a screeching halt is a rare gift, and for that moment

A bird can fly through flame

Everyone on the site is becoming so good at capturing a single moment in time we should have considered photography.

I'm doing alot of photography lately. Mostly garden pictures, and kitties right now, but that's what's around, so why not?

I bought a Dakota SLR manual focus, to get that retro feel, and then all of a sudden my dad told me he had the lenses to a camera I had as a teenager, back when they were first invented. They didn't fit the Dakota, so I went to a pawnshop and bought an old Pentax SD1000, which is a classic, and fits all my telephoto, zoom and wide angle lenses.

So I've been having a ton of fun. The one hour photo lady knows me by name, and puts more effort into getting the colors right than most of those idiots.

She does a pretty good job.

You're right; anyone who can stop a moment in time should do some photography, so I'll expect you to start now, I suppose. You might as well. You might be able to write poems about some of the things you take photographs of, and be some kind of artist, or something.

I wouldn't know about any of that, I'm just a writer who likes to take cool pictures.

I do actually take photographs with a Canon Rebel SLR. She's a digital and considered a cop-out by all the "emo" photographers, but I use her on manual mode. Besides, this was the camera I first learned how to take shots with and I don't have enough stamina to figure out a camera without a digital screen. I took a black and white photography course until I ran out of money and opted for an F. Mostly I just take wacky "light design" motion shots, scenic views, and pictures of my cheesball friends and their crazy animals. I would love to just take a year and devote it to learning potography, but then it probably wouldn't have as much appeal.
