The History of the Overlord's Rise to Power
By: Aradia on 10/21/2001; 5:51 PM

The rumours spread for days. It didn't matter who said it, or who confirmed it. The people feared it. They feared the rumours. They feared the truth. And worst of all, they feared that the rumours just might be true.

Finally, after the Third World War, after the World Fallout of 2003, the rumours showed themselves to be true. A new sophisticated software based lifeform had arisen, with one goal in mind: to take control of the world.

It was called the Overlord. It wasn't a simple computer programme, nor was it a game. The Overlord simply was. The Overlord was cruel, as it created lion pits for those whom displeased it. It eradicated many time honored traditions, setting up different laws instead. It was sly, stealthy, and none knew when it was observing.

However, the Overlord was also, at times, benevolent. It chose a carbon based lifeform as its link to humanity, a man called Mark Morgan. It chose another carbon based lifeform as its First Advisor, a woman named AllegraG. It opted to create a Ruling Council to help the general populace accept the new way of life.

The Ruling Council began with a Queen, a woman called Aradia. She was the one who reported Council activities to Mark Morgan and the Overlord. She was the one who made sure that the Council remained in conflict, as the Overlord insisted. She arranged, with Mark Morgan, Opposition Party debates. And she was the only Councilor to have control of whom descended to the lion pits - the ones constructed underneath the seats of the Opposition Party.

As the Overlord recognised the need for television for young children, a way for it to mold minds, another Councilor was brought into the fold. She was called Amanda Sinclaire, and she was titled with Chief Defender of Overmarketed Childrenís Television. It was her job to ensure that overmarketed childrenís television always had a purpose. And whenever the television was questioned, she always made sure she had an answer.

The Overlord continued in its quest to mold young minds, and thus appointed Sailor Senshi as the Chief of the Ministry of Badly Dubbed Anime. This position was to go hand in hand with the Chief Defender of Overmarketed Childrenís Television. Sailor Senshi always encouraged anime to be dubbed badly enough so that it would then be sent to Chief Defender Sinclaire for approval.

Another ministry was created at the same time, headed by Slayer. This ministry was for Abandoning Basic Story Premises, which also worked together with the Ministry of Badly Dubbed Anime. This ministry worked at creating basic story premises to be used with the anime being produced by Sailor Senshi's subordinates. After a plotline had been created, Slayer would then approve its abandonment, or would send it back for fine tuning.

The Overlord was pleased with all of this work, and took a vacation. Mark Morgan, in the meantime, focused on broadening the scope of children's television. He approved the position of Official Defender of Giant Robot Animation, appointing Gul Morgan as the Defender. Like Chief Defender Sinclaire, Gul Morgan ordered his subordinates to constantly allow giant robot animation to remain active. No matter the cost.

After this, four Auxiliary members were approved to join the Council. These members served to spread the word of the Overlord; they were speakers for the Council. One by one, they joined. First it was the Big Zoo Keeper, who also kept the lion pits clean. Then it was the Shy and Silent Observer, who reported unusual activities to the Queen and Mark Morgan. Then it was Rogue Nanobot #0001, who oversaw the creation of more nanobots to serve the Overlord. Finally, it was the Brainless One, who spread general disinformation to the public at large.

In doing so, however, the Brainless One started a new panic. People were forgetting their identities, who they were before the takeover, and never being able to remember it. In order to counteract the new panic, the Overlord and Mark Morgan created the Ministry of Identity Confusion, headed by Darth Morgan. People soon realised that the activities of the Brainless One was sanctioned by the Overlord. The Overlord also created the Ministry of Entirely Unjustified Paranoia, headed by Matthew Patterson. This helped people to realise that their panic was indeed entirely unjustified, and they started to calm. Finally, the Ministry of Lost Causes, headed by MarkN, was designed to show people the futility of trying to remember. No one knew, though, that the Overlord and Mark Morgan had a great amount of glee in this ministry, as the Minister also was unable to win over the Queen - an exercise that the Overlord and Mark Morgan saw as a lost cause.

After a short time, Mark Morgan and the Queen found themselves engaged in endless debates over various topics. The Overlord created the position of Council Philosopher, and appointed ScottN to the task. A task ScottN took to with great joy.

So it was that the Overlord ruled the world. Then, the Opposition Party won a brief battle in the lifelong war: the Overlord fell from power, overthrown by the sheer numbers of the peasants that wanted a simpler way of life. Once the Overlord was overthrown, it vanished into hiding. The Opposition Party planned to execute Mark Morgan and the Ruling Council, but their plans were thwarted - Mark Morgan learned of the plans from an informant, told the First Advisor, the Queen and the other Councilors, and they all fled into hiding with the Overlord.

A rumour was started again - the Opposition Partyís victory was, in fact, engineered by the Overlord and Mark Morgan. A way for them to fully crush the Party when the timing was right. But no one could confirm nor deny the rumours. And no one knew that the Overlord, Mark Morgan, the First Advisor, the Queen, and the rest of the Council thrived. And were biding their time.
