Stem Cells By: NS on 10/21/2001; 4:28 PM George W/ Bush says it is morally wrong to destroy one life to save another. I whole-heartedly agree. That's why I demand that George W. Bush immediately stop eating. Anything he eats destroys life -- even if he isn't consuming meat, he'll be killing the living cells of a plant (some of which may be stem cells). It is this death of life he has deemed morally wrong. And even if he can use some convoluted method to argue that he should be allowed to eat those so-called "lesser" life forms, the argument of destruction of life still stands. This is because there is only a finite amount of food, and every living thing on the planet must compete for this nourishment. Thus, his eating something immediately precludes someone else from eating it(and, therefore, perhaps dying from lack of nutrition). It is absolutely necessary, then, that George W. Bush immediately cease and desist the activity of consuming food -- for this act destroys life to save life. Of course, in this case, the life happens to be his own, so maybe those stringent morals don't apply.

I thought the funniest stem cell related line was from Ted Kennedy who complained that Bush's compromise on stem cell research didn't "go far enough to fulfill the lifesaving potential of this promising new medical research." If there's anyone with firsthand knowledge of failure to fulfill potential lifesaving promise, Ted certainly fits the bill.
Re: Stem Cells By: NS on 8/14/2001; 4:23 PM I don't know that the Bush line is an exact quote, but it is the essence of his moral stance and one of the factors he gave during his stem cell speech announcement.
RE: Stem Cells By: NS on 8/20/2001; 10:06 PM How does one get this thing published?
Re: Stem Cells By: Matthew Patterson on 8/20/2001; 10:34 PM > How does one get this thing published? If you'd like to be an Author, please post a bio of yourself, as that will be the page we link up all your writing to. Without bios, things would get rather disorganized, as there'd be no good way to look for pieces by author. After you post that, Mark will set it up using his Admin Magic (really, I have no idea what the process requires, because he hasn't shown me how to set up new author pages), and then he will bind your piece of writing to an URL. It will automagically show up in the proper writing index (under "Essays," I'm guessing) and in a bulleted list at the bottom of your author bio page. So post a bio, so we can start the process rolling! ^_^ _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
RE: Stem Cells By: Mark Morgan on 8/21/2001; 12:36 AM >How does one get this thing published? > One asks. It was not obvious that this was a complete work, for publication. Note that the discussion area serves several functions: staging before publication, talkback for published work, and general discussion. No, it is not obvious what goes where, and hopefully some planned discussion area upgrades will allow me to make those various categories clear. I'll publish it as time and circumstances permit. As a new author, I have to do some work in the admin are first, and then I or the other editor (Matthew Patterson) can publish your works with the click of a button. Please stand by, and thanks for your patience. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
RE: Stem Cells By: Mark Morgan on 8/21/2001; 1:01 AM >So post a bio, so we can start the process rolling! ^_^ Admin note: while in the past a bio was required to create a new author, it's not any more. It's merely highly desirable. What's needed to get the ball running is a 52 hour day. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I wouldn't mind that myself, except they'd just make me go to school for 40 hours of it. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Or as Aradia put it as I was typing that, make me work that much..
RE: Stem Cells By: jon on 11/23/2002; 11:36 PM listen, obviously plants, cows, pigs, chickens etc. do not share the same moral status of a human being. that was a terrible argument you made.
RE: Stem Cells By: Richard Davidson on 11/24/2002; 6:58 PM listen, obviously plants, cows, pigs, chickens etc. do not share the same moral status of a human being. That's true. I've lived with pigs; I've worked with pigs; I've fought battles with pigs beside me, and you, sir, are no pig. A pig is a friend for life, and after he dies, you can eat him. He knows this, but loves you unconditionally anyway. What human could do that?
RE: Stem Cells By: Daryl Del Rosario on 11/26/2002; 9:30 AM But I tend to believe that these so-called "lower life forms" have far more capabilties than we have. We just need to understand a lot more about them...
RE: Stem Cells By: Mark Morgan on 11/26/2002; 4:55 PM While not discouraging conversation here, you will find a very free-wheeling discussion of the subject of animal rights over at Brian Carnell's AnimalRights.net.
