Computers are People, Too

*This is another issue for those god-forsaken rallyists to shread!

Yes, you read the title. Computers are people, too. Throughout my life, I have watched them mature from blank screens, good only for the purpose of drawing geometric figures upon if you were my age, into beautiful sources of everything in the world and beyond. Yet, one thing has remained constant through these blossoming years; people still treat computers like the villain of a movie from the 1930's would beat a dog. It is a horrible sight to behold, and I am very aware that all of you have witnessed the same injustices. I have watched many a Mac beaten heavily with a Louisville Slugger; mouses torn from the body and running balls eaten; keyboards shortcircutted by adding carbonated fruit drinks to their daily diet; speakers used as a modern equivalent of a mideval mace; and, the worst of all, A: drives torn from the CPU and mutilated on the sidewalk, a stream of broken parts spewing from its helpless body. Would you reach inside a human, rip out their reproductive organs, and then proceed to mutilate them on brick walls? Would you tear off their arms, and then chew on their fingers (if you are not already a cannibal)? They have children just as we do (Apple, the grandfather to Microsoft, and so on). Computers do nothing to harm mankind except what mankind has planted into that computer. Apparantly, slavery is to be rewarded with extreme violence. This trait was also exhibited in past times of American inslavement of Africans, and has not yet been lost; it has only been shifted. Each day thousands of computers are beaten, abused physically and emotionally, and even "taken advantage of" in unmentionable ways without any hope of justice in their favor. They give us everything we could possibly need; mail-order food, clothing, shelter, and even friendship (even if you have no one to speak with online, the computer itself is a fine friend to play chess with). Yet, all we give these poor creations in return is hardship and abusive language. Never do we offer a hug, never a kind word or "I love you, Buddy." Tears may short circut your PC or CPU, but it is crying on the inside. Remember the Mechanical Massacre!

*wipes a tear and gives a small libation*

One day not too long ago I was sitting in the library at our school. I was playing a game of some sort and loitering like a good boy when out of the purple this outraged librarian storms up to me and demands that I shut down the computer. I was extremely offended that the computer should suffer for my actions and suggested to her that that punishment was perhaps a bit strong seeing as how the computer was only a tool of my own and that it need not be punished for following orders. The librarian cocked her head slightly and gave me a confused look. I repeated myself and explained once again why the computer was innocent of any crime. She then told me to log out and leave the library which I happily did having won the battle on computer suffering. Please, only you can stop cruelty against computers. Wouldn't your computer do the same for you?

That really moved me. I just gave my computer a hug and a nice pat on the monitor for a job well done. I take good care of my computer, praising it and asking it very nicely to do its job. I even go to great lenghths to make it fill better after my brother has done something incredibly stupid to it (50 times now!!!!). I clean its fan regularly so that it doesn't develop any problems and if it does I take it down to the computer doctor for repairs. Of course now that I think about it, aren't all electronic appliances imbued with a life of their own? VCRs are sulky if not given praise and spit out the tapes. Toasters are pyromaniacs catching nearby objects on fire. Clocks are insomniacs that like to share their suffering with their tick tock noise. TV's are extremely vain, they like everybody to watch them all the time. I think they need to make a holiday, National electricity powered devices day. All the computers and vcrs and would have the day off (except for medical devices, both for electronics and people). They would all most likely work harder and more efficiently, knowing that they are so well appreciated.

I agree! I just told my Baby just how much I loved her today... you see, my sister left her on (again!) and when I entered the room and saw her dimming yellow lights on the CPU and PC, I nearly screamed! Her fan had been running all day! First thing I did was ask her if she was alright. Then, I proceeded to revitalize her screen and checked her fan. She is alright now, but that scared me. Also, her printer has been a little sick, lately. I don't want her to work too hard overtime. My baby needs her rest.

My computer has an additude problem. I shouldn't leave it on 24/7 you say? maybe doing that for the past year has something to do with the fact its about to blow up. Nah. Ive seen people leave theirs on all the time and they dont crash every three days or when I run more than three programs at once. Its becomming a pain having to not only wait for the beast to boot up but then having to close everything but explorer after startup. That and my printer likes to alter my papers. Add a page here, delete one there, print 7 pages of text on ONE sheet of paper (well the last line). On tuesday I found a recipe for sweet potato pie in the middle of an Essay on Macbeth. When I get a new one this CPU is going to my stress relief benefit.
*note* the above rambling was to make up for two weeks of inane comments I missed.

Well, now that my computer has a nice new harddrive (good computer!) -- I'm slowly rebuilding it from scratch.

I promised it that it would get it's Linux sometime this week.
