I haven't had a personal weblog for a long time for various reasons both profound and mundane so a lot of things have happened in my little world you probably don't know about unless you're suffering through being married to me or have the uneasy experience of working with or for me. The big change lately is that I've gone bonkers with David Allen's Getting Things Done. I've joined the cult. We'll be in the cornfield waiting for the Space Friends to take us to Eden on Jupiter next week.
Anyway. Go buy a copy of that book and be a better person. Really. It has made work non-suck for the first time in a long time. It has also made me really interested in making myself a lot more productive. In the course of this I came across another GTD acolyte, Steve Pavlina who has some interesting ideas. This one is cool:
"ut what if you thought about making the change only temporarily say for 30 days and then youre free to go back to your old habits? That doesnt seem so hard anymore. Exercise daily for just 30 days, then quit. Maintain a neatly organized desk for 30 days, then slack off. Read for an hour a day for 30 days, then go back to watching TV.. . .Give trials a try. If youre ready to commit to one right now, please feel free to post a comment and share your goal for the next 30 days. If theres enough interest, then perhaps we can do a group postmortem around May 20th to see how it went for everyone. Ill even do it with you."
It was a rough decision to make, between web design and writing. Her Majesty voted for web design. For her projects. But you know what, I haven't done any significant writing in years. How can I not try to do something about it? So here I am: "Rough decision, but here we go: effective 4/25/05 Im going to write for 30 minutes every day."
I'll update this thread every day with whatever comes out of that, and may God have mercy on your souls.
