Response to "Ode to the Nice Guy"

By Liz Hark

I am the girl who likes the nice guys. Imagine my position. I am the girl who wants the nice guy and has to watch as these nice guys torture themselves by pining for the girls who treat them like crap. I am the girl who notices the heart break and frustration in his eyes each time he sees the girl that he desires flirting with some stupid jerk.

I am the one wishing, praying, “Let him notice me! Make him see me!” I am the one who sees the nice guys for all that they are. I am the one who dies every time he looks at another girl, instead of me, That Way. He does not ever say what he really feels and wants, but I am the one who sees; I am the one who knows.

I am the girl who tries to figure out how to make the nice guy want me, but I am also the girl who cannot bring herself to be mean or horrible to the nice guys. I am the one jumping up and down, waving my hands in the air, saying, “I am the one you are looking for!” Why don’t you see me? I am the girl who will love you.
