grape fruit

By Chie Theresa Fujioka

ive been kissing a grapefruit. now my lips taste bitter.

when she called me, the grapefruit rested in my palm, heavy and liquid. i keep my fruit on the window sill, so the skin is cold, like the air outside. before i realized, i pushed my thumb into the sweet spot in the middle. it is the best place to start when peeling a grapefruit. the feeling, as describable as the feeling of having your finger sucked, having your finger sucked by someone who has just finished an ice cube. and the smell, the smell is sunshine, sharp and alive, tangy and energetic.
