The Dead Pool
By: Keith Alan Morgan on 11/21/2000; 8:00 AM

The Avengers, Commercials, Artwork & Rocky & Bullwinkle are gone. Which NitCentral topics do you think are next for the chopping block & which do you think are safe?

Most Likely Dead Meat: Homicide; Early Edition; Johnny Quest: The Real Adventures; Dark Skies; American Gothic; Allo, Allo; Gundam; Outer Limits; G.I. Joe; V; Sailor Moon; Sea Quest DSV; Supermarionation; Brimstone; Providence; Mythology (I think there was more Mythological discussion on the Disney's Hercules board)

Possibilities for Pruning: Earth: Final Conflict (Lotsa posts second season, not so much now); Seven Days; Sliders; Quantum Leap; Highlander; The Twilight Zone; The Authoritative Works of Trek; Dilbert: the TV Show; SFX; Mystery!; Sherlock Holmes; Action Figure

Not Certain: The Trek Animated Series; Babylon 5; Spiderman; ReBoot; Blake 7; Dragonball Z; Comic books; Neon Genesis Evangelion; Beast Wars/Beast Machines; Non-SciFi Novels

New Boards, Might Stay: Law and Order; Farscape; I Love Lucy; Dark Angel

Seem To Be Popular: Red Dwarf; Doctor Who; Stargate SG-1; Star Trek Novels; Sci-fi Novels; Buffy, The Vampire Slayer; Mystery Science Theater 3000; Space: 1999; Fantasy Novels; Futurama; PC Games; Console Video Games; Batman: The TV Show; Angel; Pokemon; M*A*S*H; Andromeda

The 4 TV Star Trek boards as well as The X-Files are probably safe as well as Star Wars. The Kitchen Sink & probably Movies will most likely stay. If Religious & Political Musings are cut it probably won't be for space.

What do you think?

I don't think it'd be very wise to get rid of ReBoot, seeing as how there are supposed to be some new TV movies coming out next year. I also doubt that Babylon 5 will be cut, just because it's Bab 5, and people have an odd attraction to it. Seven Days is a bit more doubtful, but I think it'll stay. (It's actually getting more posts now than it was this time last year.)

I bet that many people would love to see the jokes&groaners posted by KAM and by ScottN disappear :-P

[nanobot activity report: begin overlord.command.upload]

OverlordYour Overlord holds a special place in my heart for Reboot!, as it quite properly shows a society running under techonological guidance. Assuming that petty human technology at nitcentral ever manages to repair itself, we will be extending our glorious presence to that discussion topic.

Which means if anyone attempts its deletion, said biological organism should expect to find itself trapped in Broward County, Florida. Right outside the government buildings.

Don't make us do it.

Wow. Just noticed that this thread has a link to it in the little right-side box on the Dreamzone page.

(Probably just a cheap ploy by Mark to get me to post more often. ;-)

BTW I listed Reboot as uncertain because I don't know how popular it is & if that's enough to preserve it.

Actually, if you think about it, we shouldn't delete the unpopular boards, we should delete the popular boards as they are the ones causing NitCentral to be too big. If the unpopular boards were left there would be plenty of room left at NitCentral. ;-)

The universe revolves around you, KAM. Actually, you just noticed it because I just updated that sidebar yesterday. That's one of many pieces of manual maintenance I would automate if I could figure out how.

I'll suggest it to Phil again, but I think nitcentral should move to Conversant. In the short term the moderators would have to learn new tools (and we'd all abandon that silly Discus coding I hate), but in the long term Conversant will serve Phil better. And the hosting agreement for even a basic site is "unlimited pages".

Kind of annoys me that Seth had to nudge me into suggesting Conversant to Phil. I guess I dislike change as much as anyone else...

Chie, nitcentral is the bulletin board where many of us--me, Matthew Patterson, ScottN, Aradia, KAM, julik, Ben Cohen, even (sigh) Peter--first met, online. Unreason came about partially because I was posting big long essays to the bulletin board. I said to myself, I need more space than that...and here we are, almost a year later.

Yippee for us!

Well, I always knew that the Universe seemed to take pleasure in causing me misfortune.

Now the next time someone tells me to stop bitching & complaining about my life, I can say "I am the center of the Universe's Sadistic Glee. Mark said so."

Blows my mind.

Ah-ah-ah-Chieeeeeeeee! *sniff* Excuse me.

All right. Everybody who had Allo, Allo; American Gothic; Dark Skies; Dilbert: the TV Show; Dragonball Z; Early Edition; G.I. Joe; Gundam; Johnny Quest: The Real Adventures; & V in the Pool has won.

Which topics do you think will be next?

Twilight Zone will probably be next, as I'm the moderator and I haven't even set foot in it for at least several months now.

Religious Musings has dodged the bullet several times now, but I keep thinking that the next time something comes up, it will be fatal.

(For those of you playing the home game, we're still discussing nitcentral.) I'm glad Reboot! didn't get deleted, now that there's the beauty of a whole fourth season gracing us with its presence next fall.

I don't think, after all this time, that RM is in any real danger. If I were Phil, I'd want the topic around just to contain all that emotion, lest it erupt all over the board.
